Two female Holy Moly staff members recently admitted that, while One Direction aren’t their musical cup of tea, they would do Zayn Malik in a heartbeat. The straight male employees shrugged their shoulders in indifference. But now that Zayn has dressed up like a sexy secretary for the Best Song Ever video we’re experiencing stirrings we’re not entirely comfortable admitting (and yet they feel so right). In other news, 18 million people have watched this video since Monday. 18 million in three days. Bloody hell.
As much as the unprecedentedly massive global success of One Direction is hard to get our heads around, what’s surprised us most is how good the Best Song Ever video is. And it needn’t have been. Everyone involved could’ve banged out a standard boyband-dancing-about-with-girls-on-a-beach video and it still would’ve sold by the truckload.
But this is great.
It’s properly funny and the band can actually act. Which all sort of means they’re only going to get bigger. And at a certain point in the not too distant future One Direction will be the biggest pop group of all time ever. And no amount of Facebook campaigns to stop Simon Cowell getting the Xmas #1 will piss on those fireworks.
Anyway, that's not what's concerning us right now.
