Bolt Wins On Return To Olympic Stadium

Usain Bolt recovered from a sluggish start to make a winning return at the Olympic Stadium one year on from his triple triumph at London 2012.

The Jamaican, who earlier entered the stadium for a lap of honour on the back of a "rocket", struggled out of the blocks before recovering to run a time of 9.85 seconds - his fastest 100 metres of the year.

However, there remains plenty of room for improvement for the 26-year-old ahead of next month's World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

American sprinter Mike Rodgers took second place in 9.98 seconds but there was disappointment for Great Britain's James Dasaolu, who withdrew from the race as a precaution after a twinge in the warm-up.

Jamaican athletics has been shrouded in scandal in recent weeks, with leading sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson both testing positive for banned substances, but there was better news on the track in London.

The Caribbean island took a one-two finish in the men's 200 metres, with Warren Weir easing home in 19.89 seconds, ahead of his compatriot Jason Young.

Earlier, Britain's Perri Shakes-Drayton ran a personal best to finish second in the women's 400 metres hurdles, behind Czech athlete Zuzana Hejnova.

The outstanding field performance of the night came from Ukrainian high jumper Bohdan Bondarenko, who threatened the 20-year world record set by Javier Sotomayor of Cuba.

Having failed at his only attempt to clear 2.43 metres, Bondarenko asked for the bar to be raised to 2.47 as he aimed to surpass Sotomayor's record of 2.45.

The 23-year-old failed twice but still won the competition with his earlier clearance of 2.38.
